Clothing Retailer Popken Fashion Group Selects Talend and QuinScape to Support Omni-channel Distribution Strategy

Central data hub based on Microsoft Azure and cloud APIs enables enhanced information sharing in real-time to improve business efficiency Redwood City, Calif. and Dortmund, Germany - November 19, 2019 - Talend, a global leader in cloud data integration and data integrity, announced today that Popken Fashion Group, an international, family-run fashion company specializing in plus-size fashion, uses Talend and expertise from QuinScape to optimize their omni-channel operational efficiency, increase revenue, and further improve internal processes. With brands such as Ulla Popken, GINA LAURA, Studio Untold, and JP1880, the company employs more than 3,600 employees in over 30 countries. The retailer recently shifted its strategy to an omni-channel sales approach —selling its clothing through its 540 retail stores, franchises, an online store, mail-order catalog, and business-to-business partners such as Amazon. Starting in 2017 with QuinScape, Popken decided to implement a data hub strategy that would enable it to connect systems and share information easily in an API environment. With Talend, data is distributed, transformed, and exchanged within seconds instead of hours or days, delivering a vast advantage in the highly competitive retail market where every second counts. The metadata-driven data hub infrastructure will be the backbone of growth for the company’s entire business channel. “It’s absolutely necessary for our omni-channel strategy to interchange all of the inventory information between our stores, the main depot, the online shop, and our partners,” said Stefan Rahner, Head of Software Development, Popken Fashion Group. “Prior to Talend, this interchange took place once a day. Now with Talend we are able to interchange this information in near real-time.  Additionally, because of its cloud integration capabilities, Talend will play a key role in supporting our long-term cloud strategy.” Speed matters in the competitive retail market where companies must respond quickly to changing conditions and distribution channels. The decision to move to the cloud enabled Popken Fashion Group to scale and better serve its business needs. The first step included the replacement of its existing ERP with Microsoft Dynamics 365 on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. Other applications will move to the cloud in the coming months. “Through our long-term partnership with Talend and proven expertise in application integration, Popken Fashion Group can now enable its customers to shop wherever they want while providing them with an optimum retail experience," said Dr. Gero Presser, CEO at QuinScape. "The retail industry has become one of the most competitive markets in the world and long-established retailers continue to face a growing number of competitors as well as new demands around customer purchase experience," said Ciaran Dynes, Senior Vice President of Products at Talend. "Together with QuinScape, we are proud to support Popken Fashion Group's cloud journey to enable a better and easier engagement with their customers.” Additional information on how Popken Fashion Group is using Talend can be found here. Talend Helps L’Oréal Turn Data into Cosmetic Innovation

The world leader in beauty leverages data and artificial intelligence with Talend and Microsoft Azure Redwood City, Calif. & Suresnes, France - October 30, 2019 - Talend, a global leader in cloud data integration and data integrity, today announced that L'Oréal, the world leader in cosmetics, is using Talend to power the Research & Innovation (R&I) department's data lake in a private IaaS environment on Microsoft Azure. With Talend, L'Oréal's R&I teams can ingest its variety of scientific, IoT, and marketing data to power cutting-edge analysis and new product innovation.  "In the globalized beauty industry, L'Oréal must innovate ever faster to meet the desires and needs of customers looking for new products and services that respect their bodies and the environment. Our vision is to deliver services to our businesses that they have not yet considered," said Philippe Benivay, IS Experimental Data Intelligence at L'Oréal. "Data and artificial intelligence allow us to move faster to create cosmetic products that meet the infinite diversity of beauty needs and desires of consumers around the world. Talend, in our private cloud environment on Microsoft Azure, helps us transform R&I into a value-added service that can leverage all research data to deliver the best in cosmetic innovation in terms of quality, efficiency, and safety." L'Oréal's R&I division deploys its teams around the world to imagine and create innovative products of impeccable quality. Every year, its development teams introduce several thousand formulas. These continuous advancements are the result of an ongoing dialogue between science and marketing. L'Oréal scientifically and rigorously demonstrates the safety and effectiveness of its innovations. To bring new products to market, R&I must be able to compile all data related to the characterization and physicochemical definition of formulas and raw materials, and the perceived performance of products by consumers in real conditions and in real-time.  To have a more accurate view of formulas and product perception, L'Oréal wanted to capitalize and centralize all research data of various natures and formats. This need to integrate multiple data sources led to the selection of Talend and the implementation of a new data lake in a private IaaS on Microsoft Azure. By deploying Talend Data Fabric, L'Oréal is able to connect all types of databases, structured laboratory data, and very heterogeneous and sometimes raw data sources, such as robotic measurement or images data. Talend's solution allows L'Oréal to incorporate intelligent algorithms directly into data integration flows in the form of APIs. The data lake enables the R&I to consolidate and prepare data to facilitate researchers' analyses and help them base their conclusions on reliable, high-quality data. The data lake processes 50 million pieces of data per day. With Talend, data is available in real-time, and the data lake is refreshed several times a day, which allows more precise management of sensitive research projects. The first operational use case developed for the finance department was on the economic management of research. The new dashboards managed all KPIs for research-related activities and associated costs, such as tests for certification and qualification. Since the commissioning of the data lake, use cases have multiplied at L'Oréal. To meet business needs, the company has deployed data marts on-demand to produce even more knowledge on many subjects, such as the microbiome (micro-organisms living inside and on the surface of the epidermis) or the exposome (the effect of pollution on the skin). Toxicologists have simplified autonomous and rapid access to quality data to support the development of new formulas. For consumer evaluations, all the videos that will be acquired during testing sessions to evaluate the effectiveness of the products are integrated into the data lake, allowing for almost instantaneous image processing and manipulation. "Research teams must base their analyses and conclusions on trusted data that is accessible in real-time," said Ciaran Dynes, SVP of products, Talend. "L'Oréal's R&I team uses data and artificial intelligence not only to help them develop new and increasingly innovative products, but also to inform other departments throughout the company. At Talend, we are proud to be able to participate in the innovation of the world leader in beauty." Additional information on how L'Oréal is using Talend can be found here. ALDO Group Selects Talend to Engage Millennials Across Channels

Cloud data integration leader enables major footwear brand to build centralized Amazon Web Services data lake to quickly generate consumer insights and programs Redwood City, Calif. - September 24, 2019 - Talend, a global leader in cloud data integration and data integrity, today announced that the ALDO Group, a world-leading creator and operator of footwear and accessory brands, has deployed a cloud data lake using Talend Data Fabric to create a personalized marketing experience for its growing millennial customer base. Talend enables the ALDO Group to integrate a broad range of data sources into an Amazon Web Services (AWS) data lake, generating immediate insight to help its customer relationship management (CRM) and marketing teams to deliver a compelling customer journey experience. “We realized quickly that the millennial generation was driving most of our global sales, presenting a new business challenge for us,” says Zaher Hazim, senior director, IT architecture, integration and cyber security at the ALDO Group. “Traditional sales took place at retail stores or on our e-commerce site, but more recently, social media has become the most popular. We chose Talend Data Fabric to help us build a strong consumer experience across all our channels. Talend has been able to help us reveal and act on insight to reach and retain a loyal customer base.” Data at millennial speed The global retailer devised a data strategy that relies on three dimensions: consumer profile, transactional data, and consumer interactions and events across all channels and media. With 3,000 points of sale in over 100 countries around the world, the ALDO Group wanted to understand its customer base better. The decision to move to the cloud was mainly driven by the need to know who its customers are, how they interact with ALDO brands and vehicles, whether they are loyal, and what they like and dislike. The ALDO Group deployed its cloud data lake using Talend and a variety of services from AWS. Once raw data is collected in Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) buckets, ALDO uses algorithms to link consumer profiles to transactions and interactions across all channels. The platform then provides the CRM team with the insight it needs to deliver a more personalized customer journey through data discovery, recency, frequency, monetary analysis, and customer segmentation activities aimed at creating loyalty across all channels. “Talend has been working closely with the ALDO Group for several years, and we are happy to have been selected to help implement their first steps to a successful cloud journey, says Ciaran Dynes, SVP of product at Talend. “By leveraging AWS, Talend allows for personalized campaigns that leverage customer data to drive conversations that result in repeat purchases for retailers like the ALDO Group.” To hear more about how the ALDO Group is using Talend Data Fabric and AWS data lakes to reach their growing millennial audience, tune into Talend’s sponsored speaking session at Strata Data Conference in New York on September 25 or visit www.talend.com to read the full customer use case.

The University of Sydney Enhances Data Insights Capability Through Real-Time Analytics using Talend Cloud

One of the leading research universities in Australia implements a cloud-first data strategy with Talend Cloud and AWS Redwood City, CA & Sydney - July 24, 2019 - Talend, a global leader in cloud data integration and data integrity, today announced that one of Australia’s most prestigious universities, the University of Sydney, is using Talend Cloud to power its new data foundation in the cloud. Data from multiple sources converge into the University’s Modern Data Environment (MDE), which provides real-time learning analytics to understand and measure student performance and resource usage to optimize operations. The University recognized the importance of bringing together their data sources to support future decision making. As a result, its Institutional Analytics and Planning (IAP) team was tasked to build a center of excellence for data and analytics for the University. At the heart of its data-driven strategy was the need to build a more robust data foundation, the MDE, which provides the foundational technology and processes to support the University's future ambitions. “Data and advanced analytics are critical to understanding key student and university insights,” said Kubra Chambers, Director of IAP. "By using Talend, we were able to extract and load high volumes of data sources into the cloud quickly, enabling us to explore and innovate faster without significant transformation upfront.” The University built its business case for the MDE around two key use cases. The first involved providing hot data in support of real-time learning analytics for institutional and academic research projects to help the University understand and generate resources to support students and improve learning outcomes. The second use case is collaboration with the University’s Library to understand and measure student and faculty usage of resources such as online journals and databases, as well as to provide data-driven insights that can influence everything from future resources the library procures to how it engages with the wider university community. “In Australian universities, the need for robust planning and revenue management has been exacerbated in recent years by reductions in government funding,” said Steve Singer, regional vice-president Australia and New Zealand at Talend. “Data management and analysis have therefore become a major and strategic challenge for universities to develop new insights to ensure efficient operations and the optimal success of their students. We are delighted to support the University of Sydney in its development and cloud data-driven strategy.” Additional information on how the University of Sydney is using Talend can be found here.
