As a government department established in 1862, executive agency and trading fund responsible to the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, Land Registry keeps and maintains the Land Register for England and Wales. Land Registry aims to maintain and develop a stable, effective land registration system; guarantee title to registered estates and interests in land and enable confident dealings in property and security of title by providing ready access to up-to-date and guaranteed land information.

Maintaining concise and accurate data for business intelligence (BI) is crucial to Land Registry’s operational performance. The department needed a tool that would improve data integration for the BI warehouse. Furthermore, Land Registry was embarking on a new business intelligence project and having access to key land and property data was a fundamental requirement. In recognising the need for a flexible and cost effective tool that could support this project, Land Registry began searching for a reliable and efficient data integration tool.

Land Registry decided to trial Talend Data Integration, which extends the award winning open source data integration solution, Talend Open Studio for Data Integration. After a six week comprehensive proof of concept, Land Registry was confident that it had accurately gauged the solution’s true potential and decided to fully implement it. Steven Philips, Delivery Manager at Land Registry commented: “Talend Data Integration was initially implemented in just two weeks. It was extremely easy to install and the whole process was very straight forward.”

Talend Data Integration is the first open source enterprise data integration solution, designed to support multi-user development, and to scale to the highest levels of data volumes and process complexity. It is used for ETL, data synchronisation and data migration. The solution provides advanced capabilities that dramatically improve the productivity of data integration job design and is highly scalable - ensuring optimal execution and complete data quality.

With Talend Data Integration, Land Registry has benefited from being able to use ETL processes – extract, transform and load. For example, the department is now able to extract data from a number of different repositories and in multiple formats to provide consistent data for business intelligence. Steven explained: “With Talend we have been able to create a robust and efficient suite of ETL applications that automate several of our data collection processes overnight. Furthermore, because of the way Talend Data Integration has been developed using an open Java framework which is compatible with Eclipse, we are able to run jobs on virtually any technical platform”

“Overall, we have been very impressed with Talend. They have a great set of open source data integration solutions and in addition to that, a very supportive workforce. We have participated in their training courses, which has particularly helped us to understand the product set. Talend Data Integration has been an excellent addition to our technology stack,” he concluded.
