Talend Enables Energy Company Uniper to Analyze Data at Scale in the Cloud

Leverages Talend and a Snowflake Modern Data Lake in the Microsoft Azure Cloud Platform to Reduce Integration Costs by 80% Redwood City, CA - December 11, 2018 - Talend, a leader in cloud data integration solutions, today announced Uniper, an international energy company, is using Talend to power its Uniper Data Analytics Platform. Talend integrates data coming from nearly 100 external and internal sources, including ETRMs, DWHs, IoT data coming from power station sensors and SAP enterprise data, into a Snowflake cloud-built data warehouse that enables a modern, central data lake on Microsoft Azure. This deployment helps business users access real-time industry, customer, and financial data to react better and faster to the market and improve energy trading. The utility and power industry is in the midst of the biggest disruption in decades. According to the IEA, oil, gas, and coal represent about 80% of primary energy demand. However, current sector forecasts for energy demand from the IEA suggest that renewables and nuclear will grow the fastest between 2013 and 2040 (6.7% and 2.3% CAGR respectively. In response, forward-looking public and investor-owned utilities are leveraging cloud computing, automation, and multichannel communication to transform their back-office and operations systems. These technology-driven approaches are improving the way that utilities engage with residential, commercial, and industrial customers, moving beyond outage maps and online bills to provide operations updates, energy/resource efficiency programs, and tailored rate structures. “By enabling us to integrate, centralize, and standardize our most valuable data, Talend gives us a single point of truth for decision support,” said René Greiner, Vice President for Data Integration, Uniper SE. “Employees in selected departments now have the support of data self-services to make the right decisions faster while ensuring high data quality and governance.” Uniper was facing the challenge of expanding its market position while attempting to gain agility and improve efficiency. In 2017, the idea of an organization-wide data strategy emerged where selected business functions, including energy trading, risk management, sales and finance should be able to quickly and easily access market and customer data as well as internal key figures and financial data. To create its Data Analytics Platform, Uniper selected Tableau along with Talend to integrate data into a Snowflake modern, central data lake in the Microsoft Azure Cloud Platform. This action helped reduce integration costs by 80%, while ensuring data governance. In addition, Uniper uses Talend Data Catalog including end to end metadata management capabilities, which intelligently indexes all data sources in the company to make them accessible in a self-service process. Through the Uniper Data Analytics Platform, business users are now able to improve trading in energy markets and offer electricity and gas in the right quantities at the right time. “We’re thrilled to help Uniper bring all their external and internal data into a modern, central data lake in the cloud,” Snowflake’s General Vice President EMEA, Thibaut Ceyrolle said. “With data from a variety of sources in one place, Uniper can benefit from rapid analytics and derive data-driven insights.” Compliance was also a major driver of Uniper’s digital transformation. Documenting and reporting trading transactions is a regulatory challenge for all energy companies; Uniper must report to European regulators every day on all the positions they have taken and all the deals they have transacted. The Data Analytics Platform helps Uniper better manage trade surveillance, including fraud detection, through easy access to accurate data and better data governance. Also, because of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Uniper ensures the security and traceability of its sensitive data. With Talend, the company can tag data as sensitive and GDPR-relevant, and make sure the provided data is accurate. “Uniper has begun a complete digital transformation that is enabling them to better respond to the new needs and challenges of this rapidly changing industry where both competition and regulations are forcing companies to become data-driven,” said Ciaran Dynes, SVP of Products, Talend. “We are proud to support Uniper with their data journey in the cloud.” For more information about how Talend is helping Uniper enable self-service data access in real-time to better respond to market changes, check out the case study. Talend to Acquire Stitch, a Leader in Self-Service Cloud Data Integration

Adds New Offering for New Cloud Data Warehouse Users and a Frictionless Sales Channel Redwood City, CA - November 7, 2018 - In a move designed to accelerate its cloud momentum, Talend today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Stitch, a leader in the fast-growing, self-service data integration market. Stitch offers an easy-to-use service for moving data from popular sources to leading cloud data warehouse platforms. The acquisition gives Talend both a strong solution for the cloud data warehouse market and a frictionless sales motion to land new cloud customers efficiently. “Stitch is a great addition that gives us a compelling offering in the market for simple, self-service integration for cloud data warehouses,” said Mike Tuchen, CEO, Talend. “In addition, we believe Stitch will work as an efficient high-volume way to acquire new cloud customers to whom we can market our advanced cloud solutions for data integration, transformation, cleaning, preparing and cataloging.” As companies standardize on using the cloud for analytics, users increasingly need to load cloud data warehouses and data lakes quickly. Most departments and small businesses lack the bandwidth and sometimes the skill set to use existing solutions, causing delays that lead to missed opportunities and poor customer experiences. Stitch, which will be rebranded as Stitch Data Loader, overcomes this set of challenges by enabling a broader population of users, including data scientists, data and business analysts, and engineers, to load data without relying on data integration specialists. “Talend is an ideal fit for Stitch. Their products complement ours, and they share a similar culture and market vision,” said Jake Stein, co-founder and CEO, Stitch. “The move to the cloud and data-driven business is changing the integration market, bringing new users with different needs. With the combination of Talend and Stitch, we believe we become the only vendor that can serve all levels of the market and all users of cloud analytics.” According to the Gartner Group, the increase in new roles such as data scientist, data engineer, data steward, and others that need access to data is expanding dramatically. In fact, Gartner Group predicts that “By 2020, the number of data and analytics experts in business units will grow at three times the rate of experts in IT departments, which will force companies to rethink their organizational models and skill sets.”[1] In addition to enhancing Talend’s product portfolio, the acquisition is expected to help strengthen Talend’s value proposition for cloud ecosystem partners including data warehouse partners such as AWS, Azure, Google, and Snowflake. “Snowflake is pleased that two of our partners are joining forces,” Snowflake CEO, Bob Muglia said. “The combination of Talend and Stitch will provide Snowflake customers with some of the broadest data integration capabilities and help them move their workloads to Snowflake with confidence.” Upon closing, Jake Stein will become SVP of the Stitch business unit reporting directly to Talend, CEO, Mike Tuchen. To learn more about Stitch or try the service for free, visit Stitch. Under the terms of the agreement, Talend will acquire Stitch for approximately $60 million in cash, subject to certain transaction adjustments. The transaction is expected to close later in the fourth quarter subject to customary closing conditions. Like this story? Talend Fall ’18 Enables Enterprises to Deliver Insight-Ready Data at Scale

Major integration platform update adds advanced catalog and API development capabilities and dramatically accelerates machine learning at scale Redwood City, CA and London - October 16, 2018 - Talend, a global leader in cloud data integration solutions, today announced a major update to Talend Data Fabric, the company’s unified data platform for data integration across complex, multi-cloud and on-premises environments. Announced at Talend Connect UK, Talend’s Fall 2018 release delivers insight-ready data at scale with new features including Data Catalog, which creates a single source of trusted data, and Cloud Application Programming Interface (API) Services, which speeds access to standardized data for building data-as-a-service applications and increasing productivity. Talend’s new release also accelerates running machine learning algorithms at scale with extended serverless big data support. “Data is at the heart of digital transformation, yet the promise of data remains elusive for many companies,” said Ciaran Dynes, SVP of Products, Talend. “For businesses to survive and succeed in this ever-evolving, expanding and complex data landscape, there is a need to optimally automate every step of the data value chain and enable self-service for more data consumers. With this release, Talend helps enterprises dramatically improve how they can organize, process, and share data, which in turn enables organizations to collaborate and innovate on insight-ready data at scale.” “As part of our cloud-first strategy, Talend has enabled us to create a governed data lake with self-service access for business units and clients in an effort to monetize new services and generate additional revenues,” said Abderrahmane Belarfaoui, CDO, Euronext. “We compete in a highly regulated industry and face many requirements that push the processing, agility and cost of IT platforms. Using Talend, we have the confidence that our data is compliant, organized and highly sharable, with the efficiency and speed we require in order to stay ahead of the competition.”   As part of the new Talend Data Fabric, Talend adds an API delivery platform enabling data-driven businesses to simplify data access. Talend Cloud API Services provides full API development lifecycle support from API design to test and deployment, enabling significant time savings in building and maintaining APIs. This API foundation serves as a standard and scalable way for companies to make data available to more users inside and outside an organization and to create new products and services that can drive new business models, revenue and profitability. “In this new era of digital transformation, nearly every organizational role is using data daily to inform decisions and actions,” said Stewart Bond, Research Director, Data Integration and Data Integrity Software, IDC. “Data cataloging software is experiencing a higher than market growth rate because it is filling a gap in the intelligence required to help organizations discover data and derive better insights to inform decisions and drive actions.” To organize data at scale, Talend adds new Data Catalog capabilities that enable a single source of trusted data. The Data Catalog automatically crawls all data, whether it is in a data lake, on-premises or in the cloud; profiles and classifies all the data; automatically finds and suggests relationships between data, and provides easy search-based access so end users can leverage trusted data when they need it to make immediate business decisions. The Fall 2018 Talend Data Fabric also accelerates running machine learning models at scale with native, extended serverless big data support for Microsoft Azure Databricks as well as Qubole in AWS cloud environments. Talend’s self-service Apache Spark processing makes it easy to spin up a cluster and control costs by just paying for what is used through serverless and spot instances. The new capabilities help to automate insight and enables businesses to process more data at lower costs. The comprehensive Talend Data Fabric delivers a unified platform for data integration across public, private, and hybrid cloud, as well as on-premises environments, and facilitates greater collaboration between IT and business teams. Combined with an open, native and extensible architecture for rapidly embracing market innovations, Talend enables customers to cost-effectively meet the demands of ever-increasing data volumes, users and use cases. Talend Partners with Snowflake and Datalytyx to Deliver Self-Service “Pay-as-you-Go” Data Analytics and Data Science for Enterprises in Europe

New Platform Enables Business Users to Access Live and Instant Reporting in the Cloud REDWOOD CITY, Calif. and LONDON, United Kingdom - September 25, 2018 - Talend, a global leader in cloud data integration solutions, Snowflake Computing, the data warehouse built for the cloud, and Datalytyx, the leading provider of big data engineering, data analytics, data science and cloud solutions, today unveiled a new Platform as a Service designed to provide business users, including sales and marketing, with direct access to relevant data analytics and data science capabilities, without relying on IT. It allows any business user to manipulate data to spot business opportunities without a background in statistics or technology and with no additional IT costs and dedicated resources. Available from Datalytyx, the new Self-Service Data Platform includes Talend Cloud for data governance and management to allow business users to integrate, clean and master data coming from a range of sources, including Salesforce, SAP and Marketo. The data is then centralized in a smart data lake powered by Snowflake offering infinite scale and zero administration requirements. Datalytyx provides the complete, fully managed cloud data platform on a monthly subscription fee with no setup costs. Included in the offering is 24/7 service & support and up to three trained staff to build and manage data pipelines. The customer just turns the service on, decides what needs to be ingested, and Datalytyx does the rest.  Customers can connect to popular data science and visualization tools including Tableau, Power BI and Zoomdata. Within a day, customers can examine their data, and within 20 to 60 days, depending on the complexity, customers can generate new insights and gain a truly 360-degree view of their customers by combining data in new ways and providing secure access to it. VT iDirect®, a global leader in IP-based satellite communications, is one of the first companies to use the new Self-Service Data Platform to optimize satellites’ performance. “The Self-Service Data Platform provided by Datalytyx takes away all of the complexity and challenge in running a Big Data Platform,” said Guy Adams, VP of Engineering, VT iDirect. “The power of Talend’s data management solutions and the scalability and flexibility of Snowflake’s data warehouse provide the power to analyze vast amounts of network data for any size of network operator.” According to Gartner, “By 2020, the number of data and analytics experts in business units will grow at three times the rate of experts in IT departments, which will force companies to rethink their organizational models and skill sets.”[1] Thus, the importance of enabling business users to access and manipulate data in a simple way is becoming an organizational necessity. “IT teams are struggling to keep pace with growing data volumes and the increasing number of employees that want data insights,” said Ciaran Dynes, SVP, Products, Talend. “Through our collaboration with Snowflake and Datalytyx, we’re significantly lowering the barrier to entry to organization-wide data access in terms of both cost and IT management.” “Data growth is exploding, and most organizations don’t consistently turn data into action due to fundamental challenges that include data silos, painful upfront costs and overprovisioned capacity,” said Justin Mullen, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Datalytyx. “Our Self-Service Data Platform enables the business users to consume data easily, while reducing the costs traditionally associated with data management and analytics using the scalability of the cloud and pay-as-you-go model.” “Today’s leading data-driven organizations want to find new ways to get instant access to data and real-time insights, while guaranteeing data governance,” said Walter Aldana, VP Alliances, Snowflake. “The Self-Service Data Platform provided by Datalytyx answers the digital challenges organizations are facing today, including access to trusted data easily, the enablement of the orchestration of data exchanges and governance.” To learn more about the full capabilities and benefits of the Self-Service Data Platform from Talend, Datalytyx and Snowflake, visit www.datalytyx.com.
