The University of Melbourne Pivots its Cloud Digital Strategy Through Partnership with Talend

Australia's leading university embarks on cloud data migration journey to improve operations, mitigate risk, and identify opportunities to improve student experiences SYDNEY - August 16, 2022 - Talend, a global leader in data integration and management, today announced that the University of Melbourne (UoM) has selected Talend Data Fabric for its cloud data platform, helping the public-spirited institution respond to the changing needs of the business by moving and managing healthy data in cloud, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments. At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, higher education organizations turned quickly to remote and hybrid learning, resulting in an unprecedented economic impact for the institutions with declining student enrollment and commercial revenue. To deal with the significant effects on their business, The UoM was determined to attract students with an improved customer experience and new offerings and resources through insight from their data. “Last year, The UoM's integration platform strategy was set to transition the university's current hybrid integration platform to a target-state cloud integration platform,” said Daniel Buttigieg, Director, Enterprise Technology, Business Services, The University of Melbourne. “With our new data ecosystem powered by Talend, we can address the current gaps in toolsets, pain-points to support the future strategic projects, and rationalize the integration platform.” The UoM decided to decommission its legacy on-premises data platform favouring a cloud-based solution to address the gaps and the new requirements identified within the university’s strategy, this includes compliance with the UoM's cybersecurity team's needs, and the native support of multiple connectors aligned with applications in the university ecosystem. By selecting Talend Data Fabric, The UoM can deliver a streamlined data integration process with support for cloud-based data integration to ensure it meets the needs of the strategic SaaS direction of the university. Talend removes technological and skills-based barriers enabling a larger base of users to work effectively with data across the entire organization. Talend Data Fabric will enable the delivery of various on-premises to on-premises, cloud to on-premises, and cloud-to-cloud data integration needs, including large-scale data migration activities such as advanced CRM and ERP implementations.  "By rapidly transforming itself, the academic community has demonstrated its resilience and capacity for digital transformation during a very challenging time," said Mark Fazackerley, Regional Vice President, Australia and New Zealand, Talend. "The University of Melbourne is making the proper choice by focusing on its data to move into the post-pandemic world. We are extremely proud that Talend has been selected to support them in this strategy to achieve organization-wide data health." Earlier this year, The University of Melbourne joined the Talend University Alliance program, a higher education program that addresses the shortage of skilled data workers and the rising demand for data integration expertise. The university program provides free software technologies and comprehensive data integration coursework that can be applied to students' future professional careers in data analysis and data research.  For more details on Talend and its complete portfolio of solutions, visit www.talend.com.

We’re certainly achieving benefits by using AWS and Talend.” Prezzee, a leading global eGift card platform, found a way to simplify and integrate its operational tracking. “Using Talend Stitch and Amazon Redshift, we have automated reporting, monitoring, and alerting across all platforms, our production database (AWS), and our customer data platform,” said Anthony Wakulicz, Head of Data, Prezzee. “Now it saves team members countless hours of work— and helps us confidently scale and manage our business. With Stitch and AWS, anyone in the company can have visibility over all of our business processes, whether built in-house or not.” Integration with Amazon Redshift Serverless is Talend’s latest advancement in supporting Amazon Redshift customers. Talend also supports native integration of Stitch with the Amazon Redshift Console, a user interface that simplifies management and improves insights into Amazon Redshift clusters and workloads. With this integration, Amazon Redshift customers can rapidly integrate multiple data sources into a fully managed secure platform and immediately enable analytics across a business. Talend Certified to Support Cloudera’s Hybrid Data Platform

Solution simplifies cloud modernization path for customers, enabling companies to establish healthy data for analytics San Mateo, Calif.— July 20, 2022 — Talend, a global leader in data integration and data management, announced today enhanced support for Cloudera with the addition of a new certification for Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) on the Public Cloud, as well as CDP data services including Data Hub and Data Engineering. As a Cloudera Connect Certified Technology, Talend has been tested, validated, and certified to work with CDP. Talend provides Cloudera customers greater agility to manage healthy data more effectively and efficiently across on-premises and cloud, enabling analytics in an optimized modern cloud environment to achieve greater value from their data. In addition to the new certifications, Talend adds native integrations with CDP Data Engineering, a serverless service that enables data teams to submit Spark jobs to an auto-scaling service. This removes the costly tasks of managing, configuring, and scaling clusters. This integration with Data Engineering creates greater agility and productivity as more time can be spent on application development and less on infrastructure. “Our extended collaboration with Cloudera continues to focus on the needs of organizations looking to achieve maximum value from their data,” said Rolf Heimes, Global Head of Business Development at Talend. “With our combined technologies, we’ve created healthy data availability across public and private cloud environments to give Cloudera customers a clear path to the cloud, along with managed scale and compute performance to support complex data needs.” High volumes of data across cloud environments make it difficult for teams to manage healthy data processing. The combined Talend and Cloudera technologies offer businesses a single solution for all their data management needs—including batch, streaming, real-time data integration, data quality, and IoT — in the cloud and on-premises. Talend’s new certifications and integration provide Cloudera customers with a clear path for cloud migration and a lift and shift strategy. “Cloudera Connect Technical Certifications empowers our trusted partners to help companies get all their data, no matter where it resides, into the hands of those who need it - because where data flows, ideas follow,” said Gary Green, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at Cloudera. CDP delivers the data services business needs, no matter where the data resides, through both public and private clouds. By simplifying operations, it reduces the time to onboard new use cases across the organization. The platform uses machine learning to intelligently autoscale workloads up and down for more cost-effective use of cloud infrastructure. With Cloudera's Shared Data Experience (SDX), the security and governance capabilities in CDP, IT can confidently deliver secure analytics running against data anywhere. CDP manages data in any environment, including multiple public clouds, bare metal, private cloud, and hybrid cloud. The Cloudera Data Platform offers game-changing technology that lets companies harness diverse data to solve important business problems. Businesses are using Talend solutions to ensure their data in Cloudera is complete, clean, uncompromised, and readily available to everyone who needs it throughout an organization. In addition to a unique combination of data integration and governance capabilities, Talend offers the Talend Trust Score™ which can automatically review, diagnose and resolve data integrity issues. SGN Selects Talend to Support UK’s Net Zero Target

Enterprise-wide data transformation and governance project to help nation’s second largest gas distribution company increase organization-wide data usage and meet government’s decarbonization objective San Mateo, CA and LONDON — July 12, 2022, Talend, a global leader in data integration and management, announced today that SGN, the UK's second largest gas distribution network company, has selected Talend to drive its cross-organizational data initiatives. The energy company will use Talend to drive a strong data culture throughout its business and power its data transformation and digitalization plans to support the UK government’s Net Zero decarbonization objective. Running in an AWS environment, Talend will help SGN operationalize its data governance strategy, supporting regulatory requirements and greater access, understanding, and usage of its data across the organization. Operating across Scotland and in the south of England, SGN provides gas to 5.9 million homes and businesses. Driven by innovation and customer centricity, the company has been investing in technologies to modernize pipe networks and provide intelligent services through IoT and automation. In 2021, the UK government released its digitalization strategy for the energy sector, highlighting the importance of data and technology to achieve decarbonization and meet its Net Zero objective by 2050. To realize this goal, SGN selected Talend to control and govern data while enabling access and better usage of data by the business. To address one of the regulatory requirements around data interoperability, SGN is building a system of trust by creating an enterprise view and catalog of its data. The use of Talend’s data governance solutions will support SGN in complying with new and evolving regulatory mandates for energy data, in particular with the digital transformation of the energy networks and the need for robust, credible, and interoperable data to feed these solutions. “Data will play a key role in the innovation that will drive the future of energy and the future of energy sources. We have a number of innovative projects to identify how we are going to use hydrogen on our networks, how we prioritize our network upgrades so that it supports the Net Zero hydrogen targets, and how we optimize our program, so it is the most efficient for the future of gas and gas networks,” explains Shuchi Nagar, Head of Architecture and Data at SGN. The success of this broader digitalization programme also includes developing greater data literacy across the organization. Bringing the entire organization around data and driving a common understanding of the data is key. The implementation of Talend solutions enables the data team to gain more visibility and provide opportunities for their colleagues to interact with data and provide their insights and knowledge across the business. “One of the benefits that the Talend platform provides us with is the opportunity to change the perception of data as a conceptual asset that people can't see or touch necessarily, particularly when we are talking in the context of governing and managing our data to deliver value,” adds Gabrielle Barnard, Head of Information Management at SGN. SGN also required a solution that integrates with different internal applications and offers the scalability and power of SaaS. “Our ecosystem is largely AWS and SaaS applications; our best of breed strategy is cloud first and this was a key criterion in selecting Talend,” says Nagar. “Healthy data that is accessible and available to everyone fosters a common understanding of data and helps organizations quickly innovate and meet evolving policies and regulations,” said Gareth Vincent, SVP/GM EMEA at Talend. "We’re honored that SGN has selected us to play a critical role in ensuring their data supports the drive toward meeting the decarbonization objectives set by the UK government.” For more details on Talend Data Fabric and Talend's complete portfolio of solutions, visit www.talend.com.

New Release of Talend Trust Score Enables Data Teams to Establish a Foundation for Data Health

Advanced capabilities quickly assess the health of any dataset over time to help businesses achieve optimal business outcomes LONDON and San Mateo, Calif. — May 9, 2022 — Talend, a global leader in data integration and management, announced today at Gartner Data & Analytics Summit in London, the latest version of Talend Data Fabric. In its Spring ’22 announcement, Talend will add advanced capabilities to Talend Trust Score™, including aggregation and historical views into the health of any dataset. These new features will help businesses analyze combined data quality metrics to evaluate data trust at macro and micro levels, including across all datasets, groups of datasets, or individual datasets. According to a survey taken of global executives in 2021, 78% say they face challenges in using their data, and more than a third say they simply aren’t using it to make decisions. In fact, Gartner recently reported that inconsistent business outcomes due to unreliable data and poor data quality are responsible for an average of $12.8M per year in losses for organizations. As the first advanced trust score available in the industry, Talend Trust Score helps businesses assess the quality of their datasets. Talend Trust Score intelligently evaluates and scores data in Talend customer environments by using crawlers that automatically scan datasets in on-premises and cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google. Businesses can also identify quality issues with incoming data from third-party systems/source systems and remedy them immediately, before there is a negative impact. Talend’s Spring ’22 enables businesses to see trends and measure data trust over time and identify data drift issues to ensure reliable information is used to drive optimal business outcomes. New features include: Talend Trust Score by Groups provides more targeted insights into the health of data assets instantly with trust score grouping via metadata. Now users can filter any group of datasets, or individual datasets, and see an aggregate trust score that can serve as an enhanced “single-pane-of-glass” view into data health. This provides a fully tailored view of datasets that are relevant to each user, for an at-a-glance view of actionable data quality metrics. Talend Trust Score Trending provides a temporal view of the health of datasets. Customers can now see trends and measure the effectiveness of data programs on an ongoing basis and surface issues that are not visible with snapshots of quality, such as data drift. Customers may scan datasets at intervals such as daily, weekly, and hourly, providing a view into dataset quality to help provide a more accurate assessment at any given time. In addition to Talend Trust Score updates, Spring ’22 accelerates productivity with collaborative workflows that can serve as a conduit between users at different technical levels. Talend expands its centralized repository with Data Quality Rules in Talend Studio, a step to ensure these simple-to-configure rules are available for reuse across the Talend ecosystem, on any data, no matter its location or format. “Talend continues to raise the bar on innovation with our customers in mind,” said Jamie Fiorda, vice president, product marketing, Talend. “Our advancements to Talend Trust Score will help businesses understand the ongoing quality of their data and feel confident in the decisions they are making. This new product release is another step toward helping our customers leverage healthy data to achieve powerful business outcomes.” For more information about Talend’s Spring ’22 announcement, please visit here.
