Introduction to Talend’s Master Data Management (MDM, 1 of 3)

Hello! Today, I'll be introducing you to Talend's Master Data Management platform, or MDM.

Talend has democratized master data management by developing the first complete open source MDM solution. Using a simple graphical development environment, I now have the opportunity to build out my data model, define data integration jobs, and manage data stewardship workflows.

Let me show you.

Graphical Interface for Easier MDM

Within my MDM dashboard, I can effortlessly review my data due to its clean, easy-to-read graphical design. This pie chart demonstrates the overall number of records in each data entity within my Master Data Management platform.

If I click directly on a segmented section of the chart, it allows me to dive deeper into that master data, revealing vast amounts of additional detail. It's here I can administer modifications and updates.

My view is highly customizable. For instance, when I click on my location data, I have a customized view showing information about a location with a Google map included.

Fully Integrated MDM Platform

Because Talend works on a fully unified integrated platform, I can use Talend Studio to start building out integration jobs to take action on my data.

I can create a flexible data model that enables me to model and master not only customer and product data domains but also less typical domains, such as employees, assets, and reference data. My data model is a set of entities connecting one to the other. In this model, a customer entity is related to my region entity.

I have taken advantage of Studio's 900-plus components and developed a job to create real-time updates on the location entity in our MDM. An MDM trigger input captures the updates and then sends my data through a series of address cleansing components to standardize the incoming addresses on the location entity. Once data quality updates are complete, it is sent back out to MDM to update or provide more workflow capabilities.

MDM also allows rationalization of data using data stewardship workflows.

Within the Talend cloud portal, I can access the data stewardship application, which is used for manual de-duplication of suspicious records. It's here I can address my matching contingencies, allowing data stewards to validate the matched choices before sending the data back to MDM.

I can also build full custom native rest APIs. For instance, I can use this customer record ID number to reveal all existing information about that particular user. I can use this information to build new internal or external portals for GDPR, for example.

Open Source MDM

As you can see, Talend's Master Data Management platform is extremely flexible, powerful, and easy to use, to satisfy all of your master data management needs.
