Talend Unveils Industry’s First Cloud-Native, Apache Beam-Powered Streaming Data Application

Talend Data Streams Free Version for AWS Joins Talend’s Suite of Persona-based, Cloud Applications that Help Liberate Data, Accelerating Time-to-Insight for Data Scientists & Engineers REDWOOD CITY, Calif. and NEW YORK - May 8, 2018 - Talend, a global leader in cloud and big data integration solutions, unveiled Talend Data Streams, a free, Amazon marketplace application that simplifies and accelerates ingestion of massive volumes and wide varieties of real-time data. Released today at Talend Connect US, the company’s annual customer and partner conference taking place in New York, Talend Data Streams provides self-service access to real-time data for engineers, data scientists, data analysts and other ad hoc integrators. The AWS-based, single-user application will eventually become part of Talend’s existing suite of persona-based, cloud applications that enable everyone to work with trusted data.  “Innovative business insights don’t happen in a vacuum. Successful data pioneers have shown that being data-driven is a ‘team sport’, meaning all employees need to be involved in collecting, shaping and improving the quality and trust in data,” said Ashley Stirrup, CMO, Talend. “Talend Data Streams now extends that collaboration to include data scientists, data engineers and data analysts using a self-service, easy-to-use, intuitive application for collecting real-time data, so companies can move from imagination to innovation, faster.” A recent survey of more than 16,000 data professionals showed that the most common challenges to data science include: dirty data (36%), lack of management support for data science teams (27%), lack of clear direction to pursue with available data (22%), and overall access to or availability of data (22%). Talend Data Streams helps overcome these challenges by allowing data scientists, engineers and other analysts to: Jump-start data integration with a zero-install, management-free, web-based UI that has users up and running in minutes Rapidly ingest massive volumes of disparate, streaming and cloud data without complexity Accelerate pipeline development with a unique live-preview feature that displays changes in real-time Break the legacy cycle and extend the life of all data pipelines with the un-paralleled portability across cloud platforms powered by Apache Beam. Delivering Trusted Data Data is the new currency in today’s digital economy. However, the economics of data are broken: data volumes continue to double each year, while the number of data workers triples, yet IT budgets remain flat—making it impossible to keep pace with growing business demands for information. In parallel, it’s becoming increasingly common for disparate business units to use their own tools to collect and integrate data, leading to more information silos, or ‘shadow IT’, which ultimately prevents companies from reaching their data-driven potential. Cloud-based, big data streaming technologies play a key role in helping companies utilize the cloud to scale data-driven decision making, while ensuring their most valuable asset—data—is governed, trusted, managed and accessible to a variety of employees. “Digital business demands a consistent approach to the management of security, privacy and process compliance across enterprises. This isn't possible when ‘information islands’ fail to observe the standards required to ensure quality and consistency,” said Ciaran Dynes, SVP of Products, Talend. “Thus, businesses need a radically different data architecture to overcome today’s broken data economics and effectively put more of their data to work. Talend’s mission is to liberate data from legacy infrastructures and improve its availability, quality, performance and value using citizen collaboration and the cloud.” Talend Data Streams will join the other persona-based apps currently available in Talend Data Fabric, an open source-based integration platform that combines all Talend products into a common set of powerful, easy-to-use tools for real-time or batch, data or application integration. Talend’s suite of integrated, cloud-based, self-service apps are optimized for worker productivity and digital transformation. Using Talend, business and IT can collaborate on data integration and governance tasks, easily share work between apps, orchestrate stewardship tasks, increase confidence in their data and put more data to work, faster. To learn more about the full capabilities and benefits of Talend Data Streams, customers can register for one of the live webinars, “Put More Data to Work: Talend Spring ‘18,” on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from either 10:30 – 11:30 am BST or 10:00 – 11:00 am PT. Talend and Qubole Partner to Disrupt Big Data Economics with Serverless Cloud Support

New Integration between Talend and Qubole Platforms Allow Customers to Scale Compute Resources On-Demand, while Reducing Data Processing Costs by up to 70% REDWOOD CITY, Calif. and NEW YORK - May 8, 2018 - Talend, a global leader in cloud and big data integration solutions, and Qubole, the maker of a leading cloud-native, big data, self-managing and self-optimizing activation platform, announced new combined capabilities that help data engineers build and run data pipelines, applications and services in the cloud at a fraction of the cost and without the burden of managing servers. Using Talend and Qubole, customers can eliminate time spent writing complex Spark code for big data processing, and instead use Talend to create data jobs and pipelines that are automatically executed at scale on Qubole’s platform.  “With data volumes doubling each year and the number of business workers needing access to that data tripling, IT leaders end up spending more time and money managing legacy technologies versus investing in utilizing big data to drive business insights,” said Ciaran Dynes, SVP of Products, Talend. “We’re excited to partner with Qubole on delivering a serverless computing experience capable of overcoming today’s broken data economics and helping enterprises maximize the power of the cloud to speed time-to-business outcomes while significantly reducing IT spend.” Deploying and managing big data technologies can be complicated, costly and requires expertise that is hard to find. Research by Gartner states, “Serverless platform-as-a-service (PaaS) can improve the efficiency and agility of cloud services, reduce the cost of entry to the cloud for beginners, and accelerate the pace of organizations' modernization of IT.” Serverless computing allows users to run code without provisioning or managing any underlying system or application infrastructure. Instead, the systems automatically scale to support increasing or decreasing workloads on-demand as data becomes available. The integration between Qubole and Talend Data Fabric allows customers to run data jobs and pipelines built within Talend on  Qubole’s workload-aware auto-scaling platform, which then adjusts the size of big data clusters dynamically to meet performance needs. Working with Talend and Qubole customers can: Integrate data from various sources into a cloud data lake on Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure. Build and execute data quality workloads to cleanse, mask and transform data. Design a data pipeline in Talend and select the big data engine of choice to run that job using Qubole’s serverless experience while ensuring enterprise-level security in any cloud. Optimize cloud resources with Qubole’s capabilities for automatically managing and scaling big data engines like Apache Spark, Hadoop and Hive. Leverage Qubole’s automated AWS spot bidding and management to implement the best price-performance ratio when running data preparation jobs. By allowing customers to side-step the need to provision, scale, or manage any servers, the combination of Talend and Qubole can help them dramatically reduce data processing costs as compared to on-premises solutions. “The exponential growth of data volumes, data types, and use cases, along with increasing user expectations, static IT budgets and a shortage of big data skills, has resulted in a data activation gap that is holding back businesses,” said Mohit Bhatnagar, SVP of Product, Qubole. “Together, Qubole and Talend are in a unique position to help companies close this gap, with a joint big data cloud solution that delivers a modern and secure serverless experience, with limited waste, and significant cost savings.” To learn more about Talend’s support of serverless computing tune in here to view the live stream keynote address by company CEO, Mike Tuchen, at Talend Connect being held in New York on Tuesday, May 8th at 8:45 am ET. Additional information on the practical application of serverless computing using containers on AWS Lambda can be gathered from this blog. Talend Listed One of Highest Rated Public Cloud Computing Companies to Work For

List Showcases Public Cloud Companies with the Highest Levels of Employee Satisfaction Redwood City, CA - May 2, 2018 - Talend, a global leader in cloud and big data integration solutions, was recognized as one of the “25 Highest Rated Public Cloud Computing Companies To Work For” in a new list released by Battery Ventures, a global investment firm, and Glassdoor, one of the world’s largest job and recruiting sites. The list highlights 25 publicly traded companies—all business-to-business cloud companies—where employees report the highest levels of satisfaction at work, according to employee feedback shared on Glassdoor. The distinction placed Talend at number 20 with an overall company rating of 4.1. The broader average across Glassdoor is 3.4. Talend’s CEO, Mike Tuchen, boasts a 91 percent approval rating on Glassdoor—compared to an average of 69 percent for all 770,000 employers on the site—and the company has a 79 percent positive business-outlook rating, again based on feedback shared by employees. The broader Glassdoor average is 48 percent. A positive business outlook means employees believe business will improve in the next six months. “Since we first partnered with Glassdoor to compile this list in 2016, the cloud has only grown in influence and market power,” said Neeraj Agrawal, a Battery general partner who specializes in cloud investing. “It was also significantly tougher to make the list this year, with companies requiring a higher Glassdoor rating to make the cut—showing that companies can’t rest when it comes to focusing on culture and employee happiness.” More broadly, “We view these rankings as a key indicator of company health and potential growth,” said Agrawal, who will discuss the lists and their implications at this week’s CloudNY conference, a high-profile, invite-only event for cloud founders and CEOs. Agrawal also serves on the board of Glassdoor. A Glassdoor economic research study, as well as other third party studies, also show that companies with high employee satisfaction often post stronger financial performance. “I’m very pleased that Talend has been recognized as a great place to work alongside so many other impressive, publicly-held cloud companies,” said Mike Tuchen, CEO of Talend. “The high marks we’ve achieved are directly attributable to the entire team. Our employees embrace a sense of collective ownership and the teamwork mentality needed to help the organization achieve its goals and deliver for our customers every day. I’m immensely proud to be a part Talend.” Glassdoor noted that employees at these highly rated companies commonly mention in online reviews that they enjoy working for mission-driven companies with strong and unique company cultures; employers that promote transparency; and companies with experienced senior leaders who regularly and clearly communicate with employees. For instance, according to one anonymous employee review of Talend on Glassdoor:  “Great product and outstanding opportunity to rule the data integration market. There is a lot of marketing and SDR (Sales Development Rep) support which makes our jobs so much easier. Great team support and solid leadership. Everyone wants to help.” Full lists of the Battery/Glassdoor highest-rated 50 private cloud companies and 25 public cloud companies to work for can be found here. Like this Story? Talend Updates Data Fabric to Unlock Analytics Potential of SAP Data

New Support for SAP in Talend Data Fabric Simplifies Integration between Back-end Systems, Enterprise Applications & External Data Sources Redwood City, CA - April 16, 2018 - Talend, a global leader in cloud and big data integration solutions, today unveiled significant updates to Talend Data Fabric that allow customers to unlock data stored in SAP systems for analytical insights, maximizing their SAP investments. Expanding upon Talend’s current support for SAP, the new capabilities help customers easily and quickly combine existing SAP data with other enterprise applications and external big data sources, then offload it to data lakes or data warehouses—either on premises or in the cloud—to run big data scenarios. “As organizations amass a greater volume and variety of data, they need a simple, cost-effective way to gain insights across all enterprise information – wherever it resides – for long-term success in the digital economy,” said Ashley Stirrup, CMO, Talend. “SAP is a highly functional software platform currently used by 87% of the FORTUNE Global 2000. However, typically special expertise is needed to create a connection between SAP and third-party systems. Now, Talend Data Fabric can help companies sidestep this skill gap by delivering a fast and easy way to harness the power of SAP data for analysis, improving business insight and operations.” The need for solutions that integrate disparate data is significant. In fact, a recent HBR study found that 55 percent of a company’s data is not accessible. SAP systems are designed for transactional processing, but getting the right data into SAP to perform such transactions can often be a challenge. Additional barriers can arise when companies try to extract information from SAP systems to support reporting, dashboards, or analytics. For example, when: Synchronizing customer data from SAP ERP with other CRMs such as Salesforce Integrating SAP data with third-party suppliers or partner systems Migrating SAP data to a data warehouse or data lake for analytics or to run big data scenarios To help customers overcome these hurdles, Talend Data Fabric now includes more sophisticated SAP connectors and components to support more enterprise-grade use cases. Talend’s new SAP support capabilities include: SAP Bulk Extraction allows customers to pull large amounts of batch big data out of SAP Business Suite and SAP S/4HANA and migrate it to other systems or applications for use in big data scenarios. A native ELT push down feature enables customers to benefit from the in-memory processing power of SAP HANA, significantly speeding up application performance without the need to be an ABAP expert. A Business Content Extractor (in tech preview) delivers semantic views on top of SAP data sources, making that information more readily accessible. It also allows customers to integrate with SAP Business Warehouses without needing external logic. Access to SAP HANA Calculation Views enables customers to work with composite snapshots and perform complex calculations, dramatically simplifying the data modeling process. Like this Story? Talend Joins Cloud Leaders in OpenAPI Initiative to Further API Standards and Interoperability

OpenAPI Initiative (OAI) Comprised of 30+ Leading Cloud Vendors including Google, IBM, Oracle, RedHat & SAP; Membership Also Secures Talend’s Leadership in the Linux Foundation Redwood City, CA - March 28, 2018 - Talend, a global leader in cloud and big data integration solutions, today announced its new membership in the OpenAPI Initiative (OAI), a consortium of forward-thinking industry experts that recognizes the value of standardizing how web APIs are defined and utilized to drive industry adoption, interoperability and best practices. Restlet, a cloud-based API design and testing platform for developers, acquired by Talend in November 2017, was a founding member of the OAI in November 2015. At that time, its goal was to create an opportunity for the API community to unite around a common language that facilitates the integration among various API tools offered by both open source projects and commercial vendors. Notable additions to OAI since its founding include Apiary (now part of Oracle), which is leading the API Blueprint project, and MuleSoft, which is leading the RAML project. “We view the Linux Foundation as a vibrant ecosystem, similar to the Apache Software Foundation, which we’re also heavily invested in for the development of Apache Beam. Talend has a vested interest in building a community-driven API governance organization that is backed by major vendors and business actors,” said Ciaran Dynes, SVP of Products at Talend. “As the API ecosystem extends to the enterprise and the Data ecosystem, our collaboration with the OAI around API standards will promote interoperability, foster closer collaboration, and ultimately further developer innovation and success.” Today’s digital and fiercely competitive marketplace has several driving forces: Omnichannel customer experience adapting to evolving customer demands, leading to the proliferation of apps, mobile and digital devices, powered by APIs; Exponential growth in the volume and variety of data captured by devices and other systems incorporated into analytics systems via ingestion APIs; A rapidly evolving open source and cloud native technology ecosystem. Nearly every application uses APIs to connect with corporate data sources, third party data services or other applications, making them “the glue” within modern data architectures. Creating a clearly described, universally agreed upon format for API services that is vendor neutral, portable and open is critical. As an OAI member, Talend will look for effective ways to promote and increase the visibility and use of API standards within the open source ecosystem, as well as augment their use within the Talend Data Fabric platform to benefit customers and partners. "The OpenAPI Initiative is on an important mission to define and promote a vendor neutral description format understandable by humans and machines," said Ole Lensmar, Chairman of the OAI Business Governance Board. "Restlet was one of the founding members of our organization and now that it has joined with Talend’s broader data integration portfolio, we expect new, more advanced applications of the OpenAPI Specification to emerge that will help drive the full API lifecycle.” As part of its OAI participation, Talend will also become a member of the Linux Foundation, which is dedicated to building sustainable ecosystems around open source projects to accelerate technology development and commercial adoption. “We’re thrilled to welcome Talend—a company founded on the premise of putting open source at the core of its entire product portfolio—to The Linux Foundation," said Jim Zemlin, executive director of The Linux Foundation. "Talend continues to contribute to several open source projects including the OpenAPI Initiative and fosters growth of the broader community. We very much look forward to collaborating with them on projects and initiatives in the years to come." OAI is composed of more than 30 members, including Atlassian, Google, IBM, Microsoft, MuleSoft, Oracle/Apiary, 3Scale/RedHat, SAP, and other leaders in the API ecosystem. The Linux Foundation hosts a wide range of open source projects in its ecosystem, such as CNCF, Cloud Foundry, NodeJS, JS foundation, ODPi, Linux and more.
