Last week at Hadoop Summit in San Jose, California, visitors to the Talend booth were given the opportunity to tell their big data story, through a short video. We had setup a recording studio on the booth, with live production capabilities, and asked attendees a simple question – along the lines of “what benefits are you getting/expecting from big data?” or “how do you use Hadoop in your organization?” All participants were entered into a raffle to win the hottest item in wearable technology: Google Glass. All videos were posted to the Talend Channel on YouTube in real-time, and tweeted used hashtag #BigDataWithTalend.
Many of the participants gave some really good stories. My personal picks include:
- Network traffic analysis: 1.2 million packets per second, correlated with past performance of the network for service repair.
- Faster and more efficient analytics: pulling data together from disparate systems, sensors on routers & servers.
- Healthcare: big data helping doctors answers questions around trends in patient care.
Our raffle winner was Joshua Magana from Vindicia, an online payment platform, who discussed how they moved from traditional data to big data and Hadoop.
We will be providing a complete round up of these videos soon, stay tuned.
