Our recently announced partnership with Microsoft has resulted in mostly positive coverage. However in a piece written by Chris Kanaracus of IDG, there has been an interpretation issue about how Talend Open Studio is positionned with regards to MSIS.
Our mission at Talend is clearly the interoperability of all systems, open source or not, and partnering with Microsoft gives us access to a huge market, with the same interoperability needs as all IT organizations.
In the integration field, Microsoft offers MSIS, Microsoft Integration Services. This is a technology that is competing with ours, and I don’t believe that Microsoft has chosen to partner with Talend because they felt in any way that MSIS was lacking capabilities. On the contrary, because Microsoft has such a comprehensive coverage of the IT stack, any partner of Microsoft in one domain is also bound to be a competitor in other domains. At the end of the day, users choose the technology that is the most appropriate for them, in an healthy “coopetition” spirit.
Again, I want to thank the Open Source Lab at Microsoft and especially Sam Ramji for their strong engagement with open source companies such as Talend, and for their commitment to giving more choices to users.
