Talend Featured Customer: SNCF French Railways

logo_sncf.jpgLast week we announced that the Rail Testing Agency, the testing and engineering laboratory of SNCF, the French Railways operator, has chosen Talend Open Studio to rationalize its data transfers. There is a nice twist to this, since SNCF has recently broken the world’s land speed record for railed vehicles at 574.8 km/h (357.2 mph). So everything is high-speed at SNCF - trains, and data integration!

SNCF said they chose Talend Open Studio for three main reasons:
- it fits their functional needs and could be deployed very quickly (the high speed again…)
- it is Open Source and is compatible with their budget constraints
- Talend could offer a service package that would allow them to ramp up and become self-sufficient very quickly

tgv.JPGAnd indeed, for many organizations, Talend Open Studio is the only alternative to custom development of integration processes. To continue with the train analogy, Talend Open Studio is the TGV (High Speed Train) of data integration, whereas custom developments are closer to the steam engine in performance and efficiency.

Stay tuned for more high speed customers from Talend!

I’ve heard that the SNCF uses the ERP Dynamics NAV (formerly known as Navision), I will be interested to get in touch with someone at the SNCF to share experiences on Talend.

We currently use Navision 3.60 and are looking for a cheaper alternative to BizTalk since
for our project we only need to replicate about 25 tables over a WAN,
When I found out that about Talend I started to think that BizTalk might be an overkill for what we’re trying to achieve …

BTW : What’s the server requirement for Talend Open Studio ? Does a low end server will do the job ?

I’ll check with the account manager if he knows whether or not this branch of SNCF uses Navision (SNCF is a pretty big organization…)

Yes I bet Talend Open Studio would work just fine for what you are trying to accomplish, and it’s definitely cheaper than BizTalk since it’s free..

Talend Open Studio does not require high end servers, it will run very well on inexpensive commodity hardware. Jobs can even be deployed on several systems if you prefer.
Best way to convince yourself is of course to download it and try it (www.talend.com/download.php).

As Talend expert on this mission, I can say that the testing and engineering laboratory of SNCF uses Navision.
Part of the mission was precisely to extract daily data from Navision tables in order to import them into another system.
