Cédric Carbone, Talend’s CTO, has just been elected to the board of directors of OW2, the consortium resulting from the combination of ObjectWeb and OrientWare. OW2 is a community that is dedicated to the development and promotion of open source middleware. OW2’s most advanced initiatives include a SOA stack and a Business Intelligence environment, two initiatives in which Talend is involved.
Congratulations to Cédric!

I am happy to welcome two new members to the Talend team: Duc Le Chi is joining Talend’s EMEA operations as Partners Manager, and Michel Fritz as Account Manager.
Duc’s prior experience include managing alliances and partners for Le Bihan Consulting, Wokup, Merant and Sybase; while Michel has worked as district manager for Parametric Technology and account manager for Gestetner. Both of them bring extensive software business development experience and they will contribute to Talend’s exponential growth!
Welcome, Michel and Duc.

This week we were at TDWI, supporting our partner JasperSoft who is providing JasperETL, Powered by Talend, as part of their Jasper BI Suite. JasperSoft actually launched version 2 of their suite at TDWI.
We met many users from small and large organizations, and it is clear from talking to these people that open source is really catching up in the BI space. Many users are looking for a way out of the closed source, non-flexible and overpriced proprietary solutions; and a lot of organizations who are new to BI are considering going the open source route. Since ETL is a critical component of the BI stack, we at Talend have a clear role to play there.
There were also a number of analysts who show lots of interest in open source – for example Mark Madsen ran a full day class on open source BI. We also spoke with other recognized industry experts including Claudia Imhoff, Shawn Rogers, David Loshin… They are all seeing open source quickly gaining adoption in the BI world.
Talend was also invited to record a Podcast with the Business Intelligence Network, in which I was quizzed by Ron Powell on topics that include Talend’s vision of the data integration market, open source adoption in the enterprise, which role the Open Solutions Alliance can play, etc. If you want to listen, it’s here (MP3, 7 minutes).

Today, our “Powered by Talend” partner JasperSoft announced the General Availability of its complete BI suite (see JasperSoft’s Press Release). This is very exciting news for us… and, I believe, for Open Source as well.
In effect this release has a few characteristics that should be noted:
* It illustrates the ability of two open source “pure player” actors to integrate seamlessly… which will hopefully contribute, to some extent, in re-assuring IT professionals on Open Source products’ ability to co-exist and/or interoperate.
* It represents an integrated best-of-breed alternative to those who don’t believe in the “wanna-do-it-all suites”…
Technically speaking, JasperETL Professional Edition comes to market with a few new features that are address some of the enterprise needs like:
* Activity Monitoring Console providing a comprehensive, consolidated graphical view of the data integration jobs execution statistics
* Administrator console to create users define their profile and manage their credentials through a web interface
* Remote repository allowing users within the enterprise to share their jobs, business models, custom routines and or metadata components they may create
Looking back at the our months that went by since we signed the partnership (!) …
You gotta love what the Open Source model can do for you!!
Stay put for more exciting news
