In May, we announced that Talend became the first integration provider to achieve both the information security management standard ISO/IEC 27001:2013 and the new data privacy controls standard ISO/IEC 27701:2019 certifications. These certifications demonstrate our unrelenting focus on security and privacy for customer, employee, and business information assets.
With the Talend Summer ’21 announcement, we’re excited to introduce two new innovations to our Talend Data Fabric cloud platform that extend our commitment to helping you keep data safe and secure.
Superior private connectivity between Talend and your AWS and Azure instances
Whether your business requires compliance with industry regulations such as PCI and HIPAA or you simply want to ensure the maximum security for your data, you can now implement private connectivity between Talend’s cloud platform and AWS or Azure instances.
Talend is the first data management platform to enable a private connection to an AWS instance via an AWS PrivateLink or an Azure instance via an Azure Private Link. This type of connection does not expose your endpoints on the internet, which helps keep sensitive data safe and drastically reduces the risk of data breaches. In addition to safeguarding private data from the public internet, connecting Talend through an AWS PrivateLink or an Azure Private Link can provide:
- Substantial cost savings. Implementing a private connection between Talend and AWS or Azure can significantly reduce transfer costs for outbound traffic, such as logs and artifacts, by up to 10x. In addition, because a private link does not use the public internet, these transfers do not require additional support architecture like internet gateways, which can incur additional costs.
- Maximized time to value. Private connections are faster to deploy and operate than VPN solutions, which can grind transfer rates to a halt and introduce one more point of maintenance (and potential failure) to monitor.
- Increased performance. For mission-critical workloads, private connections are optimal. They provide extra-low network latency, and because they don’t depend on the public internet, they can deliver higher reliability and availability.

Expansion of single sign-on and multi-factor authentication capabilities
Access control is a vital component of data protection. Keeping data secured behind a login can prevent would-be hackers from gaining access to sensitive information, but the more complicated it is for unwanted parties to access the wrong information, the more frustrating it tends to be for legitimate users as well. Single sign-on (SSO) and multi-factor authentication (MFA) capabilities can help balance the need for robust data protection with the desire to streamline user access to the information they require.
SSO is an authentication method that lets users access multiple systems or applications with a single username and password. Instead of having to memorize multiple individual usernames and passwords for each system they must access, users only need to remember one ID and password combination, making it easier and faster for them to access whatever system they need.
MFA adds an extra layer of protection when logging in to a system or application. MFA requires multiple different factors to prove the identity of a user accessing a given system. Common methods of authentication include hardware keys (also called security tokens), applications that generate random codes, or biometrics such as a fingerprint or facial recognition. In addition to requiring proof of identity beyond a traditional username and password, MFA is an effective security measure because it is often more difficult to falsify or brute force (although no single method is 100% immune to manipulation or attacks). MFA can be combined with SSO to provide a user-friendly but impressively secure means of protecting sensitive information and systems.
Talend currently supports SSO and MFA for leading SSO providers, including Okta, OneLogin, PingFederate, and Microsoft Azure Active Directory. These SSO and MFA capabilities are now available to all Talend Data Fabric customers at no additional cost, making it easier to meet security best practices and deliver a simple login experience for all users.
