LOS ALTOS, Calif. - November 23, 2007 - Talend, the first provider of open source data integration software, announced today the availability of a new migration solution for the users of the tools from former vendor Sunopsis. This offering will help organizations reduce their integration costs and leverage their investments in an integration infrastructure.
Created in 1998, Sunopsis used to offer a distributed integration architecture. The company was acquired in 2006 by database vendor Oracle, who wished to reinforce its support for heterogeneous technologies. After Oracle has instituted a new price list for Oracle Data Integrator (the new name of Sunopsis’ products within Oracle), numerous former users of Sunopsis have decided to discontinue the use of this product, and have expressed their worries about the longevity of this offering among Oracle’s multiple ETL tools.
“Any merger or acquisition in the software world generates uncertainty for the customers of the acquired company,” explained Vincent Pineau, Vice President and General Manager Americas for Talend. “In the case of Oracle’s takeover of Sunopsis, many clients are worried by the sudden change of pricing model that has been decided by Oracle – for some, the price increased ten fold or more! On top of this new pricing policy, Oracle is known for its lack of transparency on the future of their numerous ETL offerings - Oracle Data Integrator, Oracle Warehouse Builder, Hyperion Application Link, but also OEM agreements with Informatica, IBM DataStage and Sagent that they inherited from other acquisitions. It is easy to understand why Sunopsis users choose transparency, and thus Open Source!”
Among the former users of Sunopsis who have chosen Talend figure the French Ministry of Ecology and Durable Development, Bouygues Group and Continentale Nutrition.
“When they are looking to migrate toward a new data integration tool, organizations meet a major obstacle: the need to redevelop all the integration architecture,” clarified Fabrice Bonan, COO and co-founder of Talend. “Such complex projects entail a heavy workload. Talend offers a structured migration process that, even tough it cannot automate 100% of the tasks, reduces greatly costs and risks. It also increases reliability and reduces migration times.”
