Talend Launches Talend Babili Community Translation Project

LOS ALTOS, Calif. - December 8, 2008 - Talend, the first provider of open source data integration software, today announced the launch of Talend Babili, an application that allows community members to translate the user interface and other character strings contained in the source code of Talend's products into any language. Talend Babili makes it easier for people in many countries to use what is already the leading open source data integration software.

“Talend Open Studio, our award-winning open source data integration tool, has been downloaded by over 500,000 users in over 140 countries - and our registered users span 122 countries,” said Fabrice Bonan, COO and co-founder of Talend. “Talend Babili gives this large multicultural and multilingual community the ability to translate the user interface of our tools into their own languages, making Talend even easier to use and adopt all over the world.”

Talend Babili is a Web-based application that is available through Talend's community site www.talendforge.org/babili. Registered users of the application will be able to provide translation in the language of their choice for all the character strings used in the source code of Talend's products. Talend Babili is synchronized automatically with Talend's source code repository, so that when a new string is added by a developer, it is immediately available for translation. The progress of the translation project for any language is visible at all times in the application.

Talend Babili currently supports Talend Open Studio, the leading open source data integration tool, and Talend Open Profiler, the first open source data profiler tool.

“Users don't need to be familiar with the project build environment or source code repositories to contribute to a Talend Babili translation project,” said Cédric Carbone, CTO of Talend. “The user interface of Talend Babili is simple to use. Once translation of a product in a given language is complete, downloadable localization packs will be produced that can be installed on existing deployments of the target product, making it easy for all community members to benefit from the translated version.”

Translation projects have already been started in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese and Simplified Chinese. Interest from the community for other languages is strong and the number of languages will grow quickly. The name "Babili" refers to the biblical story of Babel, a cosmopolitan city known for its confusing multitude of languages.

Talend community members interested in contributing to the localization of Talend Open Studio or Talend Open Profiler, or simply checking the progress of a translation project, can visit www.talendforge.org/babili.
