Bringing Value to a Software Stack with Talend’s OEM Program

In the past six months alone, Talend has seen a 100% increase in the adoption of its technology by software vendors under its OEM program, Powered by Talend. These recent partnerships reaffirm Talend’s position as the global leader in open source data integration and further validate the suitability of open source enterprise solutions for embedding in third-party software solutions. Deborah Brook is the CEO of the WDCi Group, an Australian-headquartered company specializing in connecting systems, providing end-to-end solutions for identity, integration, data transformation and SOA requirements, both on-premise and on-demand.

We launched our business in 2008 to focus on building packaged integration solutions connecting two applications. We knew this can be difficult because of different needs and business practices, so we were researching common use cases and methods of digitizing them. We originally tackled MYOB, which is a local competitor to QuickBooks and much more prevalent here than it is in the States. The intention was to take a pre-built solution to market in a subscription model at about AU$1,000 each (US$888). Our ReadyMade ETL solution integrates data between Salesforce.com and MYOB, which provides accounting and Point-of-Sale software for small businesses.

We wanted to offer a solution that could compete with Informatica, which is too expensive for SMEs in Australia and the South East Asian market. That led us to open source. We sifted through 25 tools, including Pentaho, narrowed that down to five, and determined that Talend’s data integration technology would be the best fit both for our product and our market.

There were a number of reasons for this. Talend has a very large number of connectors, including a dedicated component that easily integrates Salesforce.com to the rest of our clients’ IT systems. Customization is minimal, and we can install the tool in a little as 15 minutes depending on complexity.

Another major benefit is the time = money saving realized. It takes approximately three minutes to manually enter and create a sales order in MYOB. Talend data integration technology automates this manual process and eliminates this step. Data quality is preserved because there is no re-keying of data between applications.

An early adopter was Solatube Australia a specialist in high-performance daylighting systems that use advanced optics to significantly improve the way daylight is harnessed.

Solatube’s Financial Controller needed an integrated sales automation and accounting tool for their dealerships throughout Australia. The accounting package of choice for many of these dealerships is MYOB and, of course, MYOB is the most prevalent on-premise accounting package for SMEs in Australia. Solatube also wanted to implement Salesforce to provide sales automation across their dealerships with visibility back to Solatube Australia.

This is just one of many uses we see for Talend’s data integration technology. We have just released a new ReadyMade ETL to integrate Business Catalyst with MYOB; this will be followed by integrating SugarCRM with MYOB, both built on a Talend core. We also use Talend in our consulting work. Prepackaged integrations for the SME market are increasingly prevalent and in Australia SMEs represent more than 90% of the companies. Talend lets us deliver rapid, low-cost integration solutions to organizations of all sizes.

This is just the tip of the iceberg for us. Our goal is 100 ReadyMade ETL tools in place by the end of the year. And, Powered by Talend, we’re well on track to deliver ETL solutions to any market at the right price.
