At the Teradata PARTNERS user conference in Dallas, Talend announced that Teradata had chosen Talend Platform for Big Data to ingest data in their new Data Warehouse as a Service platform. Teradata DWaaS was itself announced at the conference, and is poised to become a masterpiece of Teradata’s cloud strategy.
This move to the cloud by Teradata goes where their customers want them to go: toward more choice, simpler options for deploying data warehouses. In this mode, Teradata’s professional services take care of everything, from configuration to backup, from reports creation to data ingestion.
For data ingestion, Teradata intends to let the customer decide on which ETL to use. When the customer does not impose a specific ETL, Teradata consultants will be using Talend to connect to the customer’s applications and databases, on-premises and in the cloud. Talend will transform and cleanse this data, no matter where it comes from, how large the volumes are, and how clean (or dirty) the data is.
At this stage, we have already trained dozens of Teradata consultants on the use of Talend, and the first implementation is under way (for a major retail client). Other customers of Teradata DWaaS include Netflix and BevMo! – confirming that this offering is as scalable as Teradata’s on premises solutions.
We are looking forward to announcing our joint successes with Teradata, as these implementations go live.
