Talend nominated “Rising Star 2007″ by InfoWorld

moeslogosm.jpgSenior Editor Paul Roberts published an interesting piece on Talend: Data integration for the masses! in InfoWorld’s Month of Enterprise Startups.  Quoting from the article: “Open Studio shaking up market dominated by big players, proprietary solutions”.
Check it out!

And the winner is…

Everyone who visited Talend’s booth at JavaOne last week got a chance to discover the industry’s first open source data integration solution - a terrific reward in itself! But they were also entered into a raffle to win an iPod.
Now is the time to announce the winner. Congratulations to Dave A. from San Jose, CA! Your iPod is on its way.
And don’t forget - even if you haven’t won the iPod, you can still win big by trying and using Talend Open Studio. Download your copy now!

Interesting attendance at JavaOne

Talend had a booth at the JavaOne conference in San Francisco this week. As we recently launched the Java language generation feature in Talend Open Studio, it was interesting to see the reaction of the attendees to this capability.
But first, a couple general comments about this conference. It was a very interesting mix of technologies that were presented - ranging from enterprise software (data integration of course, but also BI, ERP, CRM, databases, application servers, etc.) all the way to consumer electronics (such Java-enabled phones, and even a 2-feet-high robot you could program in Java!) It was also a pretty impressive crowd, with both the North and South Halls of the Moscone Center being used, and people wearing JavaOne badges being seen everywhere in the neighborhood. A number of billboards in the Bay Area made it a very visible conference.
What really struck me on the enterprise software side is not how widely adopted Java has become (that’s a given nowadays), but more how open source is playing more and more of a role in the Java community. With Java itself having become open source, more and more enterprises are logically turning to open source to build their infrastructure stack. We’ve spoken to many companies on our booth, and the vast majority were really interested in our story. A number of them are trying to replace some proprietary and overpriced ETL products they had bought years ago. But a lot had nothing but custom scripts, that have become too complex to operate and maintain properly.
Overall, a pretty interesting experience for us - and lots of good contacts.

Networking reception at Café Dune draws crowd

dune.jpgLast night Talend co-hosted a networking reception at Café Dune in Paris, themed “Let’s do Open Source Business Intelligence!” There were over 60 participants, including representatives from companies such as Sony Music, EDF, AOL, SMC, etc.

The evening started with several excellent presentations:

  • Our training partner Anaska, specialized on Open Source products training, demonstrated a synchronization between a Web site and SugarCRM.
  • Altic, an Open Source Systems Integrator and a Talend partner, presented the project they implemented for hospitality giant Accor. This project consists of extracting reservation and cancellation information from emails, storing them in a MySQL data warehouse, and using SpagoBI for reporting on the data.
  • Then Talend’s CTO Cédric showed an EDI (Electronic Document Interchange) solution built with Talend (receiving and processing orders in real-time through EDI)
  • And of course Silicon Sentier organized and coordinated the evening.

We followed the presentation with an Open Bar that offered over 20 different types of mojitos… and lots of good networking!
