…how is the weather like?

The week has been frantic coast to coast. It started in NYC with a giant cookie (courtesy of Hummingbird) and free WiFi during Linux World.
But we also came to Linux World to work! As a co-founding member of the brand new Open Source Alliance, we proudly held the OSA booth at the Linux World exhibition jointly with other members. This OSA initiative aims at driving innovation and collaborative work between Open Source companies, facilitating the adoption of Open Source solutions.
Check out http://www.opensolutionsalliance.org/ for more information.
And we met enthousiastic Open Source project counterparts, which will surely step into the OSA project soon!

So, let’s put it this way: A lot of good contacts and a tremendous momentum on Open Source here in the States. Hotels are gigantic out there!
Let me introduce you Vincent Pineau!
Vincent is Talend’s General Manager for the US West Coast office, and will be based in Palo Alto (near San Fransisco). Vincent has a broad experience in the Business Intelligence industry. Prior to joining Talend, he held a number of management positions, in large technology enterprises, including MicroStrategy where he stayed for 8 years. . Vincent is now responsible for driving Talend’s operations in North America, and will be developing Talend’s partners network in the US starting with JasperSoft. “My role will be to work closely with our existing partners, establish new partnerships and develop the professional services offer including training, expertise and support services to help our US customers and users in getting the best out of Talend Open Studio.”

Vincent made the trip to France together with Paul Doscher, CEO of JasperSoft and Jose Morales, VP Business Development, JasperSoft, to visit Solutions Linux.

“French authorities will give out 175,000 USB memory sticks loaded with open-source software to Parisian high-school students at the start of the next school year. The sticks will probably contain the Firefox 2 Web browser, Thunderbird e-mail client, an office productivity suite such as OpenOffice.org 2, an audio and video player, and software for instant messaging. School heads will distribute the USB (Universal Serial Bus) sticks to 130,000 students at the start of the next academic year, as they arrive for their first of three years at high school. There are 476,000 students in the 468 public high schools operated by the council and the 213 privately run schools it funds. Apprentices at the 173 professional training centers funded by the council will receive the other 45,000 sticks.”
That’s a major event for the Open Source world in the educational area and a great opportunity to promote open source projects. School students will have a chance to discover and get used to Open Source softwares without constraint as they can enjoy them whenever and wherever they feel like. This project is simple, efficient, cost effective, and fast to implement … in short, a great Open Source project! What about building the same kind of Open Source software package for IT students? What should be included in?

Last week, Paris welcomed the Solutions Linux 2007 exhibition . Our Talend booth was held on the Cap Gemini’s site where our friend, Didier Chaumont kindly hosted the Talend team. This was the opportunity for the team to meet users, journalists and other Open Source software companies. This was also a great chance for us to announce our partnership with JasperSoft and introduce our new friends Paul Doscher and Jose Morales who came over to Paris especially for the occasion. At the conferences, we also met with Bertrand Matthelié, Director of Marketing EMEA at MySQL and spent some time with Jean-François Gallouin from AGF Private Equity, one of our shareholder whose enthusiasm toward Open Source projects is indestructible.
